Artificial Intelligence has been all the talk lately even though we have lived with AI for years. From Alexa to Siri, AI has been all around us, but AI has blown up the internet with new names like ChatGPT, Dall-E, Jasper, and more.
These new advancements take what technology can do way further. From helping us write articles, generate images, create code, and introduce new ways to make our daily lives easier.
With AI becoming the building blocks of a whole new world we thought we would take the time to help explain some of the new terms you may hear this year.
New AI terms you'll see this year
Chatbot: A chatbot is an app that mimics human-to-human contact. When using a chatbot just type or speak normally and it will respond the same way. One common chatbot is ChatGPT.
Deep learning: This is a technique used by AI to imitate the human brain by learning from data. While current search tools use pre-programmed algorithms to respond, AI tools are trained on concepts and conversations in the real world and learn as they go to provide human-like responses.
Machine intelligence: The umbrella term for machine learning, deep learning, and conventional algorithms. "Will machine intelligence surpass human ingenuity?..."
Natural Language Understanding (NLU): Helping machines understand the meaning of what we say, even if we make grammatical errors or speak with different regional accents.
Weak AI: A type of AI that typically focuses on a single or small range of activities, which is the most common form of AI. However, Strong AI has the goal of producing systems that are as intelligent and skilled as the human mind...just not yet.
While these terms are just the tip of the iceberg, you are going to hear a lot more about AI in the months and years to come.
